The boy comes in second in the district Pinewood Derby. Now we wait for council race later today. And yes, he actually did most of the work on the car.
Update: After coming in second in the district he ran in the council races. The boy ended up 3rd there. Not bad for a first timer!

I remember doing the pinewood derby! I always made it to districts, but got killed there all the time.

This is cool, your son will remember these things forever. I won a couple back in the 80's using my dad's super secret dry graphite lube on the axles. I also won the overall trophy in a fishing derby with my dad when I was 10. I caught the most catfish of any person there, kids and adults both. Great memories.

Congratulations! Is this his first podium? I think I told you my Pinewood Derby story. I got the Square Wheel Award.

I was never in boy scouts, I'm kind of an antisocial. But I did want to make a Jurassic park explorer derby car. Obviously that brick wouldn't win but would look good as an 8 year Old could.

Nice! I always did pretty well at Pinewood derby also, it was loads of fun for my dad and I to work on them together, and then my last year, we went all out and we both made our own that we raced against each other.
I should post pictures and stories about each of my cars on here. That was always a really fun thing to do, and I always put a lot of thought and effort into them because to me it really was building a legit racecar...
Anyways, good luck and congratulations to your son!

I bounce around the transportation world. I enjoy most all of it. Cars, planes, space, boats and trains are all fair game. Here is a ship with a train on it for you though...

Nice ship.
It's got some serious deck gear to handle those carraiges.Nicer than the modern box boats.
